Carlson Animal Hospital is experienced in addressing a wide variety of pet orthopedic problems. Orthopedics is the branch of medicine and surgery that deals with the skeleton, joints, and associated soft tissues—joint capsule, muscle, ligament, cartilage, and tendons.
With our state-of-the-art digital imaging equipment and capabilities, we can address the problem—whether it be an emergency fracture, a developmental defect, or a tear or injury to the joint and surrounding ligaments. We offer consultation and recommend treatment, including evaluating the need for surgical intervention.
An orthopedic evaluation requires a thorough medical history, observing the pet walk or run and a thorough physical examination. At times, further diagnostics such as blood work or digital X-rays may be needed to most accurately diagnose the abnormality.
If your pet’s orthopedic problem is beyond the scope of our expertise or an orthopedic surgeon is required, we will provide a trusted referral. We work collaboratively with Dr. DeJardin, a valued member of our team and an orthopedic surgeon at Michigan State University.
We frequently electronically transmit X-ray images for his expert evaluation in determining the most accurate and expedient treatment in the most complex cases.
At the same time, we will continue to care for your pet and coordinate his or her special needs. We’ll stay with you throughout the process, supporting you and helping to interpret the medical information you receive.
